Chapter 151: Impasse
Chapter 151: Impasse
Allison had taken command to man the wall and under her leadership, there were swift changes to how they operated.
The pit was made to be a lot bigger in width so it could contain a lot more zombies but zombies weren’t their only enemies.
Allison knew that there would come a time when they would have to fight humans and she would rather be ready than be taken off guard.
Bella was surprised that Mariam trusted her with such an important job despite knowing who she was.
It was strange but it showed that Mariam didn’t trust those within the walls to assume command and would rather trust a stranger.
It was as they thought, someone was trying to wrestle power from her hand but Allison wasn’t going to let up as she had no idea how it would affect her and her new family.
"Allison, I have never seen you so invested in anything," Bella called her out because Allison was always manning the walls.
"We have to hold this place together," Allison responded but why did they need to hold it together when they could take it over should it come to it?
"You’re kind of hot when you care about something," Bella teased her.
"Shut up!" Allison barked back but Bella wasn’t planning on letting up because she knew that Allison must have an ulterior motive.
"It’s Jason, isn’t it?" Bella said and Allison’s body momentarily tensed up but she didn’t give a verbal response.
"I see, you think by doing good you would be worthy of his love, don’t you?" Bella asked but once again, Allison didn’t give her a response.
"I’m afraid that is impossible," Bella said and Allison jerked her head in her direction in shock.
"What do you mean impossible?" Allison questioned.
"He has eyes for Rachel, I don’t know what it is but he looks at her differently but do women like us truly deserve to be loved by such a guy?" Bell asked and Allison cracked a weak smile.
"I guess not, we’re damaged goods," Allison said.
"Hey! Speak for yourself! You’re damaged good," Bella fired back, removing herself from the equation.
"Bella, you’re the most fucked up out of all of us," Allison reminded her and Bella wasn’t surprised due to the activity that she and her husband enjoyed before the world fell.
Bella chuckled, she was glad that she could experience life from a different lens, she knew she couldn’t be forgiven for all the sins she had committed but Jason showed her it was possible to still do good.
"Maybe you’re right..." Bella said but they were interrupted when Rachel joined the conversation.
"What are you ladies talking about?" Rachel asked and they didn’t even hesitate with their answer.
"Jason, we’re talking about Jason," Bella said and Rachel’s face changed the moment she heard this.
"Do you think he is..." Rachel stopped herself from completing her sentence.
"Dead? There is no one Jason would die when Clementine is with him. I don’t know why it is taking this long but I’m sure he will return safely..." Bella tried to reassure her but her voice showed that she believed exactly what she said.
"That is right, Jason is way too stubborn to die like this," Allison responded and a weak smile crept up on Rachel’s face.
"You’re probably right, I can’t believe I even thought about it," Rachel was ashamed that she lost faith because the only thing she had right now was faith.
"How’s Lillian?" Allison asked, they had been separated as Allison and Bella were now living together due to their new position.
"Ah, I have no idea what’s come over her but she is starting to act like a normal teenage girl. I think this place is really good for her," Rachel responded, she was glad that things were going accordingly because Lillian deserved a normal life.
"It is because of Carl..." Bella said prompting Rachel to raise a brow.
"Carl? The kid that brought us here?" Rachel was surprised because she didn’t know what kind of relationship she had with Carl.
However, she didn’t trust Carl with her younger sister because she didn’t know the kind of man that she was.
"Yeah, I think she might have a crush on him," Bella said and Allison looked surprised by this because she seemed like a girl that wasn’t interested in such things.
"A crush? Lillian? Don’t be absurd!" Rachel almost burst into laughter.
"She was acting weird when he came over, I don’t know why but it looked like a scene straight out of a high school movie," Bella said and Rachel was visibly surprised by this.
"It is fine, Lillian is always awkward around boys and that is why I was surprised that she took a liking to Jason so fast," Rachel said but they all knew the answer to this mystery.
"What do you think about Jason?" Allison asked and Bella was surprised because this was the first time Allison had asked such a direct question.
"I don’t know how I feel and that’s what scares me..." Rachel said but Allison wasn’t satisfied with this answer.
"What do you feel when you look at him and how do you feel knowing he had fucked the two ladies standing before you?" Allison asked but Rachel didn’t look bothered by this revelation.
"I would say I feel envious," Rachel said to which Allison raised a brow.
"Envious?" Allison repeated and Rachel nodded to confirm it.
"But none of that matters, I just want him to get back home safe, there is something important I have to tell him," Rachel said, staring into the horizon with a gentle smile on her face.
Allison didn’t know why but she understood at that moment why Jason might like this woman.

Sam had managed to take out most of the zombies but he was panting and breathing heavily, whoever this man was clearly took his time setting this up.
Sam held his ground and knew he couldn’t stumble, all it took was one bite and things would go south, there was no escaping it after that.
Sam knew it was time to stop having fun and take things seriously, he was running low on bullets so he couldn’t just shoot randomly.
The zombies were slow but they retained some form of muscle memory but unlike them, Sam had a stamina bar that he couldn’t exhaust or he would become vulnerable.
"Fuck it," Sam said, taking two grenades out of his pouch and throwing them in opposite directions before hitting the floor.
The detonation was enough to blow the zombies to smithereens and the ones that did manage to survive were incapacitated.
Sam got up to his feet and saw Delta growling at him despite his lower half being blown off his body.
"Delta, I don’t know what happened but..." Sam said, pausing as his expression changed.
One would think it was a moment of compassion from the man known as Sam but this wasn’t the case as Sam spat right on his face.
"You’re pathetic Delta, you should have put a bullet in your brain..." Sam said; he had the option of putting him out of his misery but Sam didn’t do that.
Sam wasn’t interested in wasting either his strength or ammunition as he left his "friend" in this state, walking over him.
Sam knew that this place had an underground compartment that would fit into what this man did. He was a mad scientist so the probability of this being his location was high.
Sam walked down the stairs and he made no attempt to be quiet, he wanted the man to know that he was coming for him.
Whoever this man was, he was a capable man if he was able to somehow make the zombies into this.
Maybe, just maybe he was capable of finding a cure seeing as he could harness the power of the fragment, something that was rare as it is.
Sam had a decision to make because if he killed this man, he might very well rob humanity of their last hope of finding the solution to this pandemic
Sam entered the room and it was pitch black but he soon felt something damp soak his feet.
Before Sam could comprehend what was going on, the light came on and he realized why there was water on the floor. It wasn’t water, it was blood.
"You really are something," This was no doubt the voice of the doctor.
"I’m afraid I don’t have the power to fight you," The doctor said.
"Giving up so soon?" Sam teased as he took another step inside.
"On the contrary..." The doctor said and the moment he did, gas filled where Sam stood.
Sam didn’t expect it and inhaled it unknowingly, falling to the ground.
"W-What is this?" Sam questioned and the doctor came out of his hiding place and walked towards Sam.
"That is sleeping gas, I was surprised that I could find so much here but this would be more than enough to put you to sleep," The doctor said with full confidence.
"Is that fucking so?" Sam responded with laughter, getting up to his feet despite his body being wobbly.
"You think this is enough to fucking keep me down? You’re right, I’m special," Sam said, the killing intent in his voice making the doctor freeze in place.
Sam had exaggerated the effect of the gas to make the doctor come out of his hiding place but unlike most people, Sam had trained by intentionally exposing himself to sleeping gas and thus, building a certain degree of immunity that had now come in handy.
"Now... What shall I do with you, doctor," Sam asked.
