System Of The Undead

Chapter 182: A Warning...

Chapter 182: A Warning...

Bella was bound to a chair, this brought about a feeling of deja vu but her mind was made of iron. The room was small, she was strapped on a metal chair with a table and couch in this small room. The walls were pitch black and the light bulb was flickering, it gave an eerie feeling that Bella couldn’t shake but this was nothing compared to what she had gone through.

She was looking forward to seeing what they had in store for her because something told her it wasn’t brutality.

This was a community and that meant that they would have their own rules that govern it.

Surely, torture had to be against those rules; even if it wasn’t.

Torture wasn’t going to do it and she expected some big intimidating monster to appear to carry out whatever was to come but in came Dimitris.

"I have told you all I know, if you don’t believe me then you can go ahead and torture me," Bella gave him the heads up.

"Torture?" Dimitris repeated with a raised eyebrow before analyzing the situation.

"What kind of barbarian do you think I am?" Dimitris questioned with a raised brow.

He loosened her binds and Bella was confused as to why he was doing it.

"What are you doing?" Bella questioned.

"I believe you, Bella," Dimitris muttered, he was tired of the situation.

"Then why did you arrest me?" Bella questioned.

"This isn’t a prison in case you haven’t noticed, I had to take you in so my men wouldn’t accuse me of favouritism..." Dimitris said, pausing briefly as he took a seat opposite her.

"I have been monitoring Israel for quite some time now, he has been moving strangely but this is a first for him..." Dimitris continued, offering Bella a seat beside him.

"I have a feeling whoever this is, is trying to get rid of you, Bella," Dimitirs concluded.

This would make sense, considering Bella and Allison haven’t done much to hide their interest in what was going on.

They had made more progress than Dimitris could ever hope to and Dimitris knew of Allison’s past but the fact she was working this hard even though she didn’t need to showed how important this was to them.

Bella sat beside him, she had no problems doing so as she doubted that Dimitris would try anything on her.

"But why would they try to frame me and won’t you get in trouble if it’s found out that I wasn’t arrested?" Bella asked.

"Trouble? Mariam is aware of your involvement with taking the meds from the hospital and even gave her approval. You didn’t know this or you’re just that good an actress?" Dimitris questioned.

"I had no idea about this..." Bella muttered in shock.

Bella knew that she might not have been able to keep it under wraps if she was informed prior.

"So Allison kept it to herself... Clever lady," Dimitris said with a satisfied smile; Allison was showing why she was a Specter.

"What? Allison knew?" Bella gasped, expressing both shock and surprise.

"She knew everything but it seems she’s the only one that did..." Dimitris said; he was certain that if Allison told Bella about it she would have given this away.

They needed it to be believable and the anonymous tip was the one thing that they didn’t expect.

"That bitch..." Bella cussed under her breath with a smile.

She was impressed that Allison knew what was going on and had taken precautions to make sure they weren’t bitten in the ass.

If Mariam hadn’t been informed, things would have gone a lot differently.

-

Rachel heard about the arrests as it was all anyone was talking about but there was no information as to who it was that was arrested.

However, Rachel couldn’t help but feel anxious as she knew that there was a high chance that it was Bella.

Rachel wanted to know why Josephine helped them but she hadn’t seen them since then.

"Rachel, can I see you in private?" Mathias called out to her.

Rachel had no problems complying and followed him to his office to see what was up.

"What is it, Doctor Mathias?" Rachel questioned him but Mathias looked hesitant to spill what he had to say.

"I need to tell you something..." Mathias responded, taking a dramatic pause.

"It’s about your sister..." Mathias said and Rachel’s heart dropped the moment she heard the next words out of her mouth.

Lillian was found, passed out on the field with a wound at the back of her head implying that she had been hit with a blunt object.

Who would want to attack Lillian? Lillian hadn’t done anything whatsoever to anyone and was the most likeable among them.

Rachel rushed to the room her younger sister was in and she nearly broke down in tears.

Mathias had to hold her back because Lillian could have easily been killed yet she was nowhere to be seen.

Rachel blamed herself, she made the mistake of thinking that this place was a haven and forgot that there were always dangers lurking around.

"How did this happen!?" Rachel barked, Lillian had a concussion but that was about it.

Luckily, the damage stopped there and Mathias walked to the table beside her unconscious sister to pick up a note.

"This is for you..." Mathias said right before handing her the note.

Rachel read it and realized that this was a threat, the note was clear.

"Stop poking your nose around or I just might poke a knife into her next time," The note read and Rachel realized that this was a threat.

Lillian’s injury was a message and she didn’t know what to do about this but nothing was worth losing her sister over.

"Mathias..." Rachel called out and the doctor gave her his attention even though he noticed that she didn’t use his Doctor title.

"Yes?" Mathias responded.

"Why do you have this note?" Rachel asked.

"What do you mean why do I have it, I wanted to give it to you," Mathias responded.

"You shouldn’t have that note Mathias, you don’t belong to the security unit nor do you have any business having that note," Rachel said.

She was panicking yet her mind was still working clearly.

"Are you accusing me of something?" Mathias asked with an awkward smile.

The tension in the air was evident because Rachel was clearly implying something.

She was right, Mathias had no reason to have that note, it should be in the possession of the security as evidence.

The fact that it was given to her made her question the authenticity of Mathias’ story.

Rachel had to compose herself, she let her emotions get the better of her and nearly spooked Mathias.

"I don’t even know what I’m saying Doctor Mathias, seeing my sister here is messing with my head..." Rachel said; she was distraught and couldn’t believe what was happening.

She ran into Mathias’ arms and embraced him for comfort and this allowed her to kill the awkwardness that was mounting.

"I understand, you’re in denial and I’m sorry something terrible happened to your sister but I promise you, they will do everything in their power to make sure it doesn’t happen again," Mathias tried to reassure.

"And as for the note, I was told by Allison to give it to you, I didn’t know it would have been a problem or I would never have taken it," Mathias said, stroking her back to try and calm her down.

Mathias was a lot more different than Rachel thought he would be.

He was a handsome man so she expected him to be full of himself with the ego of a narcissist but he was quite down to earth.

It made sense now, Allison was doing her a favour, this was Allison’s way of warning Rachel about the dangers that came with the investigation.

If the note entered the records then there was a low chance that she would never have seen it.

Allison did her a solid but this also meant that Allison was the one that found her sister.

She broke from his embrace and walked up to Lillian’s bed, placing her hand on her face.

"I’m sorry Lillian... I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you," Rachel said and this was where the tears began to stream down her cheeks. And it slowly escalated into full-on sobbing.

Mathias knew this was his cue to leave her alone as this was an emotionally charged moment.

Rachel knew that things were going to get more difficult however, things were different.

This was now personal, Rachel didn’t just want to catch the person who did this, she wanted to kill them as they had crossed a line that they should never even have thought of crossing.

Rachel’s red line has always been Lillian and the world was about to see the lengths she would go to make sure her sister was safe.
