Chapter 305: Sam, The Abberation?
Chapter 305: Sam, The Abberation?
Sam was standing right above this woman pleading for her life but Sam was feeling rather strange, the skill he had used before had its drawbacks.
Sam felt light-headed but he was glad that he used it, it was unheard of that a human could use anything like this to begin with.
Jason was able to use it because of a system but Sam was different, he shouldn’t be able to use any of these, there was no explanation why he could.
The lady saw her opening to either flee or attack but she remained stationed in place as she knew that this could be Sam playing games.
She didn’t know him but she knew that this man wasn’t stable mentally and doing anything to agitate him would be stupid.
"Damn it!" Sam exclaimed before slamming his head against the floor, almost splitting his head into two in the process.
This startled the lady but the look on Sam’s face was a lot calmer.
"Hahahaha!" Sam laughed as blood streamed down his forehead but he looked a lot calmer.
"Go on, fucking scram!" Sam commanded, gesturing for her to get lost as he turned his back to her and began walking away.
"W-Wait! We can still win against them!" The lady barked, prompting Sam to stop in place.
"Win? This world is in its natural form," Sam replied in a cold voice, she was expecting a different reply but this sent chills down her spine.
"Then why are you fighting the undead?" She questioned Sam.
"Because it is fun," Sam simply responded as he kept walking away.
The lady was perplexed by this answer, did this man not care about saving humanity?
That couldn’t be it, that would be a rather extreme view of things however she had known Sam for a bit and realized that he was anything but sane.
Sam walked away, leaving her alone but she knew that she had to stick with this man.
She followed behind him because she believed in her heart that his ability would prove to be key even if it left him brain dead at the end of it all.
Sam didn’t react to her following him because he knew that she might be able to be used as a bargaining chip or even a pawn to further his goal but he now knew that there was something sentient about this fragment.
It wasn’t just some rock if it could get them all gathered here, there had to be a reason for this and he was going to figure it out but the voices in his head had been silenced.
There wasn’t a single voice and this allowed Sam to think with a clear head for the first time in a long time.
And Sam realized that this only happened when she got within a twenty-meter proximity to him.
"Hmmm..." Sam muttered under his breath because this could be a coincidence but he didn’t believe in such things, everything in this world had purpose or consequences.
There was no such thing as luck or karma but this couldn’t be a coincidence as it was unknown how she was able to fend off the influence of the system.
Maybe, just maybe she had somehow developed something similar to him.
Was that why the fragment had limited control over their thoughts, unlike the others?
Sam began to realize that with this woman around, she could keep the fragments’ influence over him at bay.
But he couldn’t shake off a feeling, something almost primal and that was that Clementine was in danger, he didn’t know how he knew this but he just felt it.
-
Clementine had been taken by Chronos and injected with a strain of the parasite that had wrecked humanity but she was fighting against it.
However, she could only hold out for so long as her body slowly succumbed to its influence.
Chronos knew this would be the outcome but he was surprised that she held on for so long, no human should be able to endure that amount of pain yet she did.
Why was she fighting so desperately to hold onto her limited life because humanity was soon going to be extinct, in another hundred years there would be no one left because the world would have become theirs.
So why fight, why not give their bodies to be something greater than themselves?
Chronos controlled humans by corrupting their fear of death, as long as the fear of death existed then he could get a stronghold of them.
That fear was how the others learned that humans could be influenced by fear, it was a terrible thing to behold but it was admirable.
Chronos was getting interested in the species known as humans the more he came across them, he wanted to know more about them before they became extinct.
Clementine wasn’t waking up, her mind was slowly being stripped away and replaced by the power of this fragment.
It was slowly burrowing into her subconscious, erasing everything that made her who she was, what she was, overriding every single thing that was being stripped away. Chronos wondered what made mankind tick because he took note of Sam not being corrupted as well as it could pry through the minds of anyone that came into contact with the fragment.
But how was Clementine going to pull through this, was this the end of her, was she just going to become a vessel like Schneider did?
-
Clementine found herself in a pitch-black world, devoid of light and sound yet she felt like she was drowning.
She tried to swim back to the surface but there was nothing that could be done, the more she struggled, the further she sank.
There was no escaping it but she wasn’t going to resign to her faith because she had a lot to fight for. She had people to fight for but she felt trapped.
Clementine was about to lose everything and everyone, the only one she wished to save her was one person, that was Sam.
