Chapter 86: Who LET The Devil In?
Chapter 86: Who LET The Devil In?
Rachel ran, the dogs were ravenous and they wanted her head, they wanted to kill her because all they knew was blood.
Rachel was scared, her heart was beating like crazy, and the adrenaline in her body spiked because her body had gone into survival mode.
But Rachel was at a big disadvantage because these dogs didn’t have to worry about their stamina, it was infinite.
Rachel knew she had to find high ground because even though she was covered in zombie guts, the dogs weren’t deceived by this as they had now registered her as a threat through smell.
Rachel began to tear up, she didn’t want to die but she didn’t see how she could survive this ordeal.
The dogs were gaining too, she couldn’t outrun them either but she saw something that she could jump on.
She didn’t hesitate and did just that, Rachel jumped on a car that had been burnt, it served as a barricade of some sort but for what exactly, she didn’t know.
This didn’t stop the dogs as they too, climbed the car alongside her but the fact that she acquired high ground first meant that she had the advantage somewhat.
She could at least fight back right now as opposed to before, she took out her gun and fired the first bullet right into one of the dogs that tumbled to the ground but it got right back up like it was nothing.
She missed the head and as long as you don’t shoot the head of the zombie, then there was nothing that could be done as the zombie would simply keep coming.
But she got it right the second time around, Rachel heaved a loud sigh of relief but something grabbed her gun.
She looked down and realized the dog had leaped up and bit it, she tried to pull the trigger to kill it but another dog proceeded to lunge at her, forcing her to let go.
She had managed to kill one out of three dogs and something told her that these dogs weren’t going to let her go.
Rachel had to get off this car and she saw the chance she had been waiting for, there was a bus not so far from the car but she had to gamble everything and hope that her jump would be enough to take her to the other side.
Rachel steadied herself before lifting off, the dog narrowly missing her ankles as she grabbed onto the bus, her body slamming on the edge.
She knew that the dogs would attempt to do so and she was right. She watched the dogs jump and at that moment, Rachel used every ounce in her body to lift herself up and onto the roof of the bus.
The dogs, on the other hand, crashed into the glass. Luckily for Rachel, the glass shard had incapacitated one of the dogs, leaving just one left.
Rachel stayed still on the bus, she held her breath and tried her best to reduce her heart rate, she needed to be calm.
The dog had lost its prey and it was stuck in the bus. It moved about but it was a lot calmer than a minute ago and that was only because it had lost its target.
Rachel hoped that Bella had similar luck as she didn’t know what fate awaited Bella but she also knew that Bella was pivotal in their escape.
Now that they had split up, nothing was stopping Bella from taking the car and running.
-
Bella ran, she was a lot smarter than Rachel when it came to this type of situation, she quickly discarded the unnecessary clothing she had so the two dogs following her would be distracted as they should mistake this as two individuals.
Bella’s plan worked and this put her at an advantage as she was out of range of the dogs and also hidden in a safe place.
Bella was happy that she got away from Rachel because she didn’t know what would have happened to her if she stuck with them.
Something told Bella that her time was up with that group but she wouldn’t mind being a part of it even though this was just a dream.
Bella quickly pushed these stupid thoughts out of her head, the zombie that she had encountered with Jason on that fateful night.
There were two and she had unknowingly run right into them.
Bella tried to run but the fluid spat from their mouths was aimed right at her, these weren’t the same zombies that she had seen earlier, they looked completely different.
Bella braced herself for impact but it never came, she opened her eyes to see a man standing in front of her and the two zombies motionless on the ground.
"It’s been a while Bella..." The voice said and Bella’s stomach dropped.
"You are...!"
-
Lorenzo got up on his feet, Clementine was crying but this time, she wanted to pull the trigger.
"No Clementine, you have to trust me, we need him!" Jason reiterated the man’s importance.
"And what about Sam, did we not need him?" Clementine questioned, her voice was filled with anger.
"Sam is wearing a bulletproof vest, the bullet shouldn’t have gone that far because the vest would have softened the impact. He should still be alive but you need to fix him up! Sam is one stubborn son of a bitch, there is no way he will die with just this!" Jason encouraged Clementine.
Jason was right, Clementine got right to work. She quickly checked if the bullets had exited his body but it didn’t unfortunately, it was stuck somewhere in his body.
"D-Do it... Get it out..." Sam muttered weakly, Clementine knew if she did this without any anaesthetic, it risked his body going into shock, killing him in the process but there was no time.
Clementine had to trust that Sam would pull through, she knew she couldn’t infect the wound.
She had to be meticulous as she dug her fingers into his abdomen, it was the first bullet that was stuck, the second one had exited his body,
Clementine hoped it didn’t hit any major organs as she moved her fingers, hoping to find the bullet. Sam bit his lower lips so hard that he almost tore it off his face but he didn’t make a single sound. He knew that Clementine needed to concentrate and screaming would take her out of it.
"Found it!" Clementine said as she removed the bullet shard before applying pressure to the wound in a bid to stop the bleeding.
Jason got up to his feet, he was weak but he knew he needed to intervene because Lorenzo was walking right to Clementine.
He blocked the man’s path and Chronos must have sensed the dire situation that Jason was in.
[Ding!]
[System Glitch Detected!]
[Update System? Y/N?]
Jason was surprised that there was a glitch because he assumed that Chronos was perfect. The last time he updated he realized that things worked to his advantage even though he had to do something for Chronos in return.
But this time, Chronos wasn’t asking for anything and this made Jason grow suspicious.
"What will be changing?" Jason asked Chronos outright.
[Chronos Will Gain The Ability To Interact With The World Through Its Host Among Many Other Perks!]
Jason was speechless because he knew how useful getting even more perks might prove to be, even though he didn’t quite understand what it meant that Chronos could interact with the world through its host, isn’t that what Chronos has been doing with the tasks?
Jason didn’t question it and immediately agreed to the update because why the fuck not?
"Yes, I will update!" Jason thought. Chronos only ever brought these things in his time of need and Jason assumed this was another one of those instances.
